Responsibilities

During my internship I was responsible for simple tasks around the shop like washing buckets, processing flowers, watering plants, and keeping the shop clean. I was also responsible for working with customers to make their requests and floral dreams come to life.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was doing wedding florals. I also loved seeing the flowers in the wedding pictures afterwards, and being able to say “I did that” it was such a proud feeling.

Learning experience

In this internship position I was able to learn how to design flowers for a wide variety of events from proms & formals, to weddings, to corporate events. I also learned how to work with a large variety of customers. I am proud to take forward the skill of being able to do just about any floral design for any event into my future career.

What advice would you give?

Take advantage of every opportunity you can. There are going to be opportunities to volunteer, short term internships over breaks or one semester, or longer term part time jobs, take the opportunities that come to you. One of the best things I did was working multiple part time jobs in different parts of the event industry over the past 3 years to gain as much experience as possible. This also helped me learn what I loved about the industry, and which parts weren't my personal favorites.
