Responsibilities

As a Trail Point Health and Wellness Intern, my responsibilities include: creating daily workouts for members to access through the SugarWOD app, leading Team Training groups through their 3x/week programs, working one on one with members interested in personal training, creating graphics/informational posts/how-to videos for various events Trail Point hosts, develop programs for various age groups and fitness levels, assist in keeping Trail Point as sanitary and organized as possible, create how-to videos/pictures/descriptions to add to the exercise library, assist in planning future Trail Point events and specials for members.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment over the course of my internship is working my way up to teaching/leading group exercise classes, Team Training, and aquatic fitness classes entirely on my own. I had no idea I would be able to get to that point considering my lack of previous experience leading such programs. I feel much more confident after my experiences at Trail Point and I'm eager to pursue certifications to officially lead similar programs in the future.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned from my internship is that even if you have the educational background, experience, tips/tricks you've picked up along the way, realistically each client is a different case entirely. Not all clients fit the fitness mold of what we learn in school so you have to learn to tailor each program to fit the client's needs and goals.

What advice would you give?

Don't be afraid of trying something new. This seems like basic advice but pushing yourself and stepping outside your comfort zone can result in a ton of valuable knowledge/experience gained and possibly even a new career path you never thought about before. The benefits always outweigh the risks when it comes to trying something new during an internship.
