Responsibilities

As a Resident Advisor, it is my responsibility to supervise the youth ages birth through 17 years old, follow their daily & nightly routines, provide a safe and supportive environment through my trauma informed lens, and coordinate with other staff, case managers, and administrative staff to facilitate group activities.

Accomplishments

One of my greatest accomplishments has been the experience of working with adolescent youth and applying the knowledge I gained at ISU to better support those youth. Establishing relationships with youth that suffer from all types of trauma has been an accomplishment in itself because it's a completely new area for me.

What advice would you give?

Life begins when your comfort zone ends - don't be afraid to take a chance with a company or opportunity you don't have much experience with. I was hesitant to take this internship because it's an area I had no experience with. Now, I'm so glad I took the chance because I love my internship and I've landed a job with the same company!
