Taylor Hufford

Responsibilities

During my internship I enjoyed a variety of responsibilities. I shadowed some counselors as they went out in the community and met with clients. I also worked on finding community resources in the Des Moines metro area for clients in need of resources. I worked on the insurance side of things and saw the administration aspect of how human service organizations can work. I assisted with mini projects around the office.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was getting to help people and connect them with the help they need. The job is not always easy, but it is rewarding to help people get better everyday.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned was that boundaries are good and very needed in this field. Boundaries are very necessary to be able to take care of myself but also my clients as well.

What advice would you give?

To make sure you have a passion and love for helping people. Never force yourself into anything and make sure you are doing what you love. Also never forget to celebrate the little things, because they make it all worth it.
