Responsibilities

I had a variety of responsibilities during my internship at Moorman Clothiers. First and foremost, customer service! I helped customers find what they needed, suggested ideas for ensembles, and helped fit men for suits and sports coats. In addition, I also did some marketing for Moorman Clothiers. I created ads and social media posts, mostly to promote our newly added Lululemon addition. They had just started carrying this brand within the first couple weeks I stared, so I had the amazing opportunity to help my supervisor with the buying process of Lululemon merchandise every week!

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was selling a full suit, and also a sport coat all on my own! I had been picking up on the process by watching my supervisors and coworkers, so I did what I thought they would do! The customer I helped was very happy when he left and told me that I made the process extremely easy and thanked me for my help. I was really proud of myself for being able to work on the fly and problem solve all on my own.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned from my experience is that problem solving skills are necessary for a successful career. I had to be able to work around issues that came up because unexpected things happened almost every day! Because I was able to problem solve, my supervisors were very impressed with me and allowed me to have more responsibilities during my internship.

What advice would you give?

My advice to anyone wanting to pursue a major in Apparel Merchandise and Design (AMD) would be to make connections. Make small talk with anyone and everyone! You never know who you could connect with! I would also recommend starting a portfolio or blog with work you have done in your classes. SAVE EVERYTHING! Employers love to see what you are capable of doing. Adding a portfolio also gives you an edge to everyone else applying. Lastly, don't be afraid to ask for more responsibilities from your supervisors. This is when you can learn the most valuable skills!
