Responsibilities

During my internship I had multiple different responsibilities, the biggest one would be to give coaching cues if I saw something wasn't right in an athletes form. This was the biggest thing I did because I did this everyday during the internship. I also ran the ForceDecks platforms when the coaches needed to have the athletes jump before lifts. We would do this a lot in-season to see where the athletes were at physically. I also help use the GymAware technology to get bar speeds of athletes during some of their lifts. We used this a bunch when the wrestlers were maxing out to see what speed they were at and get a rough estimate on how much to bump the athletes weight up for the next set.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during this internship was creating a portfolio for future job interviews. This was a really helpful assignment in my internship because it gave me a blueprint for what I need to do in the future and I can work off what I have now. Another great accomplishment that I had during this internship was going through a "fake" interview. They had me come in a go through an interview and get an idea of the questions I would be asked. The biggest accomplishment I had was being able to earn the trust of the strength coaches I worked for to run my own workout sessions with them watching.

Learning experience

The best lesson I learned when doing my interview was to be confident in what I'm saying because no one is going to hire someone that isn't confident in what they are saying. Another lesson was to kind of sell yourself when in interviews because it's the time to show the people hiring what you are all about.

What advice would you give?

Ask as many questions as possible when at your internship because it is a great way to learn from the professionals you are working for. Show up with the mindset to learn each day. Lastly, show up with a good attitude when working with others so that you can make relationships with the people you are working with.
