Responsibilities

Managing admissions and discharges, coordinating with insurance companies, monitoring how many patients at Azria, gathering a daily census of patients, reviewing progress reports for potential patient behavior, providing emotional support for patients and their families, conducting mood assessments, reviewing progress report for potential behavior, filing and uploading patient assessments and insurance information, and medicare and medicaid meetings.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment at my internship was learning to communicate in all kinds of ways to all kinds of different people. At Azria there are many different kinds of patients that require certain type of communication and I learned many of these.

Learning experience

My greatest lesson at my experience was learning how important it is to be observational. At Azria there are many responsibilities you have and in order to really be good and effective you need to pay attention to all of the non-verbal and verbal cues you receive while working. In order to due this you need to be very observational.

What advice would you give?

For future students my advice would be that I know it is a very uncomfortable task to acquire an internship however, you will not regret it. Participating in the internship is the most rewarding experience you will grow through. Of course it is scary, but we are in college to learn and grow and that is exactly what the internship experience will do for you.
