AMES, Iowa – Two honor societies in the College of Health and Human Sciences celebrated nearly 50 students at a recent induction ceremony.

Iowa State’s chapter of Kappa Omicron Nu, a national human science honor society, welcomed 27 new members and recognized 13 graduates.

Phi Upsilon Omicron is a national honor society in the integrated field of family and consumer sciences. ISU’s chapter had six new initiates and celebrated two graduating seniors.

Both organizations have a historic legacy at Iowa State with Kappa Omicron Nu getting its start in 1913, a year after the national society was founded. The inaugural advisor at Iowa State was Catherine MacKay, the first dean of ISU’s Division of Home Economics. Phi Upsilon Omicron began at Iowa State in 1926 where early members spent time helping with Extension Service and orientation.

The inductees and members of both honor societies were part of an induction ceremony in MacKay Hall on Sunday, April 27.
