Recognizing Those Who Are Changing the World

Each year, the College of Health and Human Sciences takes pride in recognizing and celebrating the exceptional achievements and contributions of outstanding alumni who are changing the world.

Awards are given to deserving individuals who have made a difference. These alums are carrying out the vision of the College of Health and Human Sciences on an everyday basis. Whether working in our schools, government agencies, private industry, or non-profit organizations, they are expanding human potential and improving people’s lives.

Alumni Achievement Award

  • Objective: The alumni achievement award recognizes College of Health and Human Sciences alumni for meritorious service and/or distinguished achievements in areas such as business and industry, education, family and consumer sciences, and health.
  • Eligibility: Anyone who has an undergraduate or graduate degree from the College of Health and Human Sciences (and related former colleges).
  • Criteria: Selection is based on national or international recognition for their service or achievements. Their positive contributions should be made clear in the “Impact of Professional Achievements” requirement for the nomination.
  • One or two awarded annually

Outstanding Young Professional Award

  • Objective: The Outstanding Young Professional Award honors College of Health and Human Sciences alumni for remarkable early-career achievements.
  • Eligibility: Any person who has an undergraduate or graduate degree from the College of Health and Human Sciences (and related former colleges) who is 40 years of age or younger in the year in which the award is given.
  • Criteria: Selection is based on national or international recognition for their service or achievements. Their positive contributions should be made clear in the “Impact of Professional Achievements” requirement for the nomination.
  • One or two awarded annually

Virgil Lagomarcino Laureate Award

  • Objective: This award honors College of Health and Human Sciences alumni who are nationally and internationally recognized for their meritorious service or distinguished achievement in the field of education.
  • Eligibility: Any person who has an undergraduate or graduate degree in education or a teaching certificate recommended by the college.
  • Criteria: The nominee will have gained recognition for their service to education at the local, state, national, or international level. Their positive contributions should be made clear in the “Impact of Professional Achievements” requirement for the nomination.
  • One awarded annually

Helen LeBaron Hilton Award

  • Objective: This award recognizes College of Health and Human Sciences alumni who are nationally and internationally recognized for their community leadership, meritorious service or distinguished achievement in the areas of family and consumer sciences.
  • Eligibility: Any person who has an undergraduate or graduate degree in the family and consumer sciences field.
  • Criteria: The nominee will have gained recognition for their outstanding community leadership in human sciences at the local, state, national, or international level. Their positive contributions should be made clear in the “Impact of Professional Achievements” requirement for the nomination.
  • One awarded annually

Timeline

March 1: College of Health and Human Sciences Alumni Award submissions are due
April 30: Iowa State Alumni Association notified of award recipients
Fall: Awards presented at Iowa State Homecoming

Nomination Instructions and Information

Fill out the form below and submit it by March 1. Please contact Deb Sellers, dsellers@iastate.edu with questions.

Nominations and self-nominations are welcome and are accepted year-round. Submissions received by March 1 annually are reviewed by the CHS Honors and Awards Committee. Recommendations are forwarded to the dean of the college for award selection in the coming fall. Nominations will carry over to subsequent years if applicable.

Summary: Provide a summary of no more than 100 words, explaining why this nominee is a deserving recipient of the award. The summary will be used in promotional materials should the nominee receive the award.
