Proposal Support
Contact the REACHS Team
If you are considering applying for a funding opportunity, contact the REACHS team via the REACHS Team Support Request form or email reachs@iastate.edu.
Contacting us early allows us to:
- Interpret and confirm sponsor guidelines and requirements,
- Prepare the budget and budget narrative,
- Prepare application forms, and
- Ensure ISU internal deadlines are met.
ISU Internal Deadlines
All proposals must be approved by the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration (OSPA) or the Iowa State University Foundation (ISUF) before submission to an external sponsor. The REACHS team will collaborate with you to determine the deadlines for the internal submission process, including the initial and final reviews of materials.
The REACHS team will route your proposal in Streamlyne. Minimally, a proposal must include:
- Budget
- Budget justification
- Project abstract, Statement of Work or Proposal Draft
- A copy of the request for proposals (RFP)
Required Streamlyne Proposal Documents
The budget should reflect, as accurately as possible, the funding needed to conduct the proposed project. The REACHS team can help develop the budget in accordance with the opportunity’s requirements.
Additionally, the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration (OSPA) provides guidance on preparing and developing a budget.
The budget justification, or budget narrative, explains why budget items are necessary and how the requested funds support the proposed project’s goals. The REACHS team can help develop the budget justification for a proposal.
The project abstract or statement of work explains the type of work to be performed using the requested funds.
If ISU is a subrecipient, a Statement of Work outlining the ISU PI’s responsibilities toward the overall project goals should be provided.
The RFP outlines what the sponsor is looking for in submitted proposals. This can go by different names depending on the sponsor (e.g., Notice of Funding Opportunity, Request for Applications, Funding Announcement, etc.). Still, it will include the critical items related to the proposal’s submission, such as budget requirements, submission deadlines, project duration, and document requirements.
Additional documents could include:
- Sponsor budget templates
- Subrecipient commitment forms
- Transmittal letters
- Federal forms required for submission
- Subcontract documents
- Key personnel documents (e.g., Biographical sketch, Curricula Vitae, Current & Pending Other Support, etc.)
- Other documentation as applicable
The REACHS team will help determine what additional documents are required for the project proposal.
