Overall Experience
My overall experience during the Summer 2024 study abroad program was truly unforgettable. It was the best experience I could have asked for. I met incredible people and connected with professionals who inspired me deeply. Studying at the London College of Fashion completely broadened my horizons—both creatively and personally. Even though I was there for only eight weeks, it felt like a lifetime’s worth of growth and memories. I made friendships and connections that I still cherish and keep in touch with to this day. I miss it so much and would go back in a heartbeat if I could.
Learning experience
The most valuable learning experience I had was learning to step out of my comfort zone. I’ve always found meeting new people or speaking in large groups a bit uncomfortable, but studying abroad taught me that if you don’t take that first step, it’s easy to feel isolated. Putting yourself out there—even when it feels awkward—is essential to building meaningful connections. It’s not always easy, but every time I pushed myself to talk to someone new, it led to friendships and experiences that made the whole journey even more special.
Memorable experience
One of the most memorable experiences from my study abroad program was a spontaneous trip to Scotland with a friend I had met just six weeks earlier. Despite not knowing each other for long, we instantly connected and decided to travel together to Edinburgh. It was the most magical place I’ve ever been—we truly felt like we were in a fairytale. We explored the stunning Highlands, took a cruise on Loch Ness, and even got to feed the most adorable Highland cows. It was an experience full of adventure, connection, something I’ll never forget.
What did you not expect?
What truly surprised me was how many incredible people I met while abroad. At the same time, I may not be in touch with everyone, but the connections I made—even if just for a moment—were meaningful and impactful. London is an energetic and unpredictable city; whenever I stepped out of the house, I felt like anything could happen. That experience taught me to be more open to meeting new people and embracing the unexpected in life and my future profession. You never know where a conversation or connection might lead; that insight has changed how I move through the world.
What advice would you give?
If you’re thinking about studying abroad—just do it! You won’t regret it. The experiences you’ll have, the people you’ll meet, and the personal growth you’ll go through are truly life-changing. It might feel intimidating at first, but stepping out of your comfort zone will open doors you didn’t even know existed. It’s 100% worth it.
How has this experience impacted your life?
This experience profoundly impacted my life, personally, academically, and professionally. I genuinely feel like I found myself during this program. London is a city that breathes art, fashion, and individuality, and what I loved most was the freedom to be exactly who you are. No one cares what you’re doing, how you’re dressed, or what makeup you’re wearing—it’s a place where self-expression is embraced. I thrived in that environment and grew so much in every aspect. It reaffirmed my passion for fashion and communications and made me even more excited to pursue a career that allows me to help others express themselves confidently. It also shaped the way I approach my education now—with more curiosity, boldness, and purpose.
How did you learn about this experience?
I first learned about this international opportunity while researching the fashion program at Iowa State University. I discovered that ISU collaborated with several universities abroad, including the London College of Fashion. That immediately caught my attention because studying abroad was something I had always dreamed of doing during college. Knowing that I could combine my passion for fashion with an international experience made the opportunity even more exciting.
