Overall Experience

Overall, France was a once in a lifetime experience and I am super grateful that I had the chance to participate in this program. I had the opportunity to spend two weeks in France learning about their culture by visiting cathedrals, museums, monuments, and cooking classes. During these two weeks we had the chance to see all the popular tourist sites as well as getting to experience things from the perspective of a local. This program has given me new knowledge and perspectives that I will carry with me through the rest of my life. This program has inspired me to keep traveling abroad and to experience and try new things.

Learning experience

My biggest learning experience while in France happened during our visit to the U.S Embassy in Paris. We talked with an ambassador about the history of the embassy and the similarities and differences between the United States and France pertaining to food and agriculture. Hearing about the views of France and how they differ from the United States has given me a different perspective on many issues.

Memorable experience

One of the most memorable experiences that I had while on the trip was our evening dinners all together. It was during these dinners that I felt completely immersed in the culture. We would all be trying new foods and talking about our experiences from the day before all while surrounded by the French culture.

What did you not expect?

During this program, I was very open to trying new things and taking advantage of every opportunity that I had. If there was a new food at dinner that I had never had before I would try it. If there was an extra excursion to go on during the trip I would do it. I have no regrets on taking advantage of all of these opportunities. I will take this mindset with me through the rest of my life and always take full advantage of future opportunities.

What advice would you give?

Some advice that I have for future students studying abroad is to take advantage of every opportunity you are given. Do every optional activity that you have and try all the new foods that are offered. You never know when you will be back or will have the chance to experience these things again.

How has this experience impacted your life?

This program has given me new knowledge and perspectives that I will carry with me through the rest of my life. I will incorporate things that I learned from this program into my everyday life here at home. As a future dietitian, I will remember things from this program and incorporate this knowledge when meeting with future patients and clients. This program has inspired me to keep traveling abroad and to experience and try new things.

How did you learn about this experience?

I learned about this international opportunity by going to the study abroad page and looking up programs that were offered by my college that pertained to my major.
