Overall Experience

My overall experience was extremely positive and rewarding. I loved being able to learn about Australia and the history behind the culture while also gaining new perspectives from the people around me. This opportunity allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone, meet new people, and experience things I would not have otherwise. I also enjoyed learning more about different lifestyles, traditions, and environments while creating memories that I will always remember.

Learning experience

One of the most valuable learning experiences was stepping outside of my comfort zone and experiencing a completely different environment. Traveling internationally taught me how to be more adaptable, independent, and confident in unfamiliar situations. I also learned how important flexibility and communication are when navigating new experiences and meeting new people.

Memorable experience

One of the most memorable parts of the experience was being able to explore Australia while creating memories with the people around me. I didn’t know anyone before going and we all have trips now to visit each other! Whether it was visiting new places, trying different foods, or learning about the culture firsthand, every day brought something new and exciting. It was such a unique experience that I will always remember.

What did you not expect?

Something that surprised me was how much I grew personally in such a short amount of time. Being in a completely different environment helped me become more independent and open to new experiences. Moving forward, I think this will help me approach both my career and personal life with more confidence, adaptability, and willingness to try things outside of my comfort zone.

What advice would you give?

My biggest advice would be to say yes to everything. Try new foods, explore new places, meet new people, and take advantage of every opportunity you can. Studying abroad can feel intimidating at first, but stepping outside of your comfort zone is what makes the experience so rewarding and memorable

How has this experience impacted your life?

This experience impacted me both personally and professionally. Personally, it helped me become more independent, adaptable, and confident in unfamiliar situations. Educationally, it allowed me to learn outside of the classroom and better understand global perspectives and cultures. As someone studying event management and hospitality, this experience also showed me the importance of cultural awareness and creating inclusive experiences for others. Long term, I believe this opportunity will help me in my future career by improving my communication skills, adaptability, and ability to work with people from different backgrounds

How did you learn about this experience?

I first learned about this international opportunity through Iowa State University and the College of Health and Human Sciences. After hearing more about the program, I became interested because I wanted the opportunity to travel internationally while also gaining educational and cultural experiences.
