Jenny Junker, a senior in apparel, merchandising, and design, was awarded a $35,000 scholarship at the YMA gala in New York City on Jan. 6

Jenny Junker, a senior in apparel, merchandising, and design, was awarded a $35,000 dollar scholarship from the YMA FSF in front of 1,500 fashion industry professionals at the gala. Junker competed in an industry case study and presentation contest to win the award.

“We are so proud of all of our ISU students and lucky to be surrounded by such spectacular and smart young professionals; last night was a testament to their potential,” said Danielle Testa,  a Ph.D. student and graduate assistant in apparel, merchandising, and design program, who was awarded a top YMA scholarship 10 years ago. “Jenny has been an outstanding student who works hard and wants to make a lasting impact on our industry. This top award was so well deserved.”

The apparel, merchandising, and design faculty — which includes several professionals who serve as industry liaisons — has developed a rigorous, research-based, industry-driven curriculum, said Eulanda Sanders, the Donna R. Danielson Professor in Textiles and Clothing and chair of apparel, events, and hospitality management. The program also offers mentors who guide apparel students throughout development of their projects.

Along with Junker, five other Iowa State students — Abigail Goeser, Maddie Kim, Tammie Melton, Hannah Mauser, and Crystal (Hanying) Shen  — were awarded $5,000 scholarships at the gala.
