Alum-Hanna Erickson, Where Is She Now?
Hanna Erickson graduated from Iowa State University in May 2023 with a degree in Hospitality and Management. Since then, she has worked in the hospitality industry at a private country club in Virginia.
As the Minnesota native reflected on her path, Erickson expressed gratitude for her education.
“Ultimately, Iowa State gave me a foundation of knowledge I apply in my daily work and the skills essential for the industry,” Erickson said.
During her undergraduate years, she was actively involved in Gamma Phi Beta sorority, serving as the member educator. In this role, she organized Bid Day, an event celebrating new sorority members.
“It’s interesting because a lot of what I did in that position is what I do for my job now. In my sorority, I had them go through a six-week program where they learned more about the sorority, and they did a quiz at the end, and then they got initiated. That’s what I do with my staff now,” Erickson said.
Erickson cherishes many memories from her undergraduate experience.
“My favorite memory was winning Greek Week with my sorority my senior year. Another highlight was the CMAA World Conference in Florida, where we received the award for most students recruited. It was just myself, my classmate and a PhD student along with our professor,” said Erickson.
Reflecting on her academic choices, Erickson has only one regret.
“I transitioned from hospitality management to the private club industry. My interest was piqued by taking contemporary club management classes. I wish I took advantage of the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) membership that we get enrolled in by taking the class,” Erickson said.
As she finished reflecting on her time at Iowa State, Erickson leaves students with a few words of wisdom.
“Pay attention in your key classes and have fun with your major. Additionally, don’t be afraid to move somewhere far away. It’s daunting, but meeting new people and experiencing different cultures has been gratifying,” Erickson said.
