Natalie Drake, an Iowa State student majoring in Hospitality Management with minors in Beverage Management and General Business, is building a career that blends her passions for hospitality and the outdoors.

Originally from Geneva, Illinois, Drake chose Iowa State because of her family’s legacy on campus and the welcoming campus atmosphere.

“I cherish the close-knit community here,” she said. “One of my favorite memories is playing board games with friends in Larch Hall during freshman year.”

Drake’s time at Iowa State has been filled with enriching experiences, including a study abroad program in Athens, Greece.

“My time in Greece gave me new insights into international hospitality, travel, and tourism,” she said. “I’d encourage every Iowa State student to consider studying abroad.”

Drake’s enthusiasm for hospitality is clear in her academics and extracurricular activities. Her favorite class, Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Cafe Operations with Carolyn Elbert, aligns perfectly with her minor in Beverage Management. She has also worked at the student-run Sparks Café, where she has learned to make soda syrups and homemade boba tea.

She is excited about her upcoming internship at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, where she will gain hands-on experience in park-based hospitality. After graduation, she aims to continue her journey with ExplorUS, a company specializing in hospitality management in the United States’ national parks.

Thanks to Iowa State’s hands-on learning opportunities, Drake feels well-prepared for her post-graduation career and is excited to apply her skills and knowledge in a job she is passionate about.
