Lauren’s hands-on experience in Iowa State’s FCEDS program has prepared her for a future career that changes lives

Iowa State University’s top-ranked Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Studies program offers several paths for students to choose among, including one of the few programs in the state that offers teacher licensure in Family and Consumer Sciences.

Lauren found a home at Iowa State and plans to become a FCS high school teacher. During her time at Iowa State, she gained experience in classrooms and with programs in the FCS field. Through her work as an outreach educator for the program, Parenting, It’s a Life, she deepened her understanding of life skills.

“I get to travel the entire state and we teach life skills curriculum and also a teen dating violence awareness program,” said Lauren. “So, we’re really giving life skills to students around the state and hopefully making them better people.”
