Responsibilities

My primary responsibility during the internship was helping with summer program events, which included bike, water, fire, gun, and other educational safety programs through local park and recreation summer camps. I was also assisting in preparing community activities and conferences, such as the School Nurse Conference, along with helping and learning through being in the safety store here in the hospital. I also helped with multiple projects in the office, such as organizing and counting grant-funded supplies, creating posters and worksheets, online posted resources, and any other tasks when needed.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during the internship was creating a bike safety program and education for pre-k children. In doing this, I gathered activity, educational material, and program outline and then went to a local kids center and did the programming with them on my own.

Learning experience

A lesson I learned that I will takeaway is understanding the amount of preparation that goes into educational programing and how multiple resources and individuals have to collaborate to make it possible. Also, many topics and resources are well known, so it is essential to make education and resources easy to understand and accessible.

What advice would you give?

Every opportunity is a learning experience, the people you meet in many areas have different backstories and experience and use that to your advantage to learn and connect with individuals.
