Responsibilities

Organized and executed regional wellness events and self-report challenges for hospital employees as part of the OnPoint for Health program, encouraging participation in activities that contributed to employee benefits. Conducted one-on-one health consultations at biometric screening events, collecting participant data including height, weight, body fat percentage, total body water (TBW), and manual blood pressure readings. Interpreted and communicated cholesterol and other biometric results to participants, providing personalized health feedback and education. Managed check-in processes at community blood profile events, including handling participant registration, processing payments, and accurately labeling blood vials for testing.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was successfully conducting over 200 health consultations at biometric screening events. This not only helped participants better understand their health metrics but also strengthened my clinical skills, communication abilities, and confidence in working independently in a professional healthcare setting.

Learning experience

One of the greatest lessons I learned was the importance of confidence in my skills and decision-making, especially when working directly with individuals about their health. I also learned how critical clear communication, organization, and adaptability are in fast-paced environments like wellness events. Additionally, I gained a deeper understanding of how preventative health programs are implemented in real-world settings, and how every role—no matter how small—contributes to the overall success of a public health initiative.

What advice would you give?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions—whether it's about a task, a procedure, or career advice. The people around you genuinely want to see you succeed and are often more than willing to share their knowledge and experience. Being curious and engaged not only helps you learn more, but also shows initiative and builds stronger professional relationships.
