Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment was learning how to teach 4 new modalities of group fitness classes as well as shadow and participate in several more. This was one of the biggest goals that I wanted to accomplish and my supervisor did a great job of introducing me to new classes and giving me opportunities to teach. I loved connecting with all sorts of people.
Learning experience
One of the greatest lessons I learned was how to build relationships with clients and staff. I especially grew through communicating with participants in classes. I really learned the most from working with their senior population and helping them with classes, questions, and their unique needs when it came to fitness and communication. For example, I was able to tailor a chair exercise class to the needs of some less mobile seniors specifically for them and at their own class time so they could be accommodated.
What advice would you give?
I would tell future students to start gaining hands on experience and relevant work experience early! Try to say yes to every opportunity and don't be afraid to try new things. Remember that comfort kills, growing may hurt but you cannot be afraid to get uncomfortable.
