Responsibilities
During my internship at Children and Families of Iowa, my main responsibility was observing the caseworker during client interactions and meetings. I learned how they conducted intakes, managed documentation, and connected families to resources. I also assisted with small tasks such as organizing files and preparing materials, which helped me understand the daily operations of family services.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment during my internship was learning how to complete client intake forms accurately and independently. This task was essential for ensuring families received the right services, and mastering it gave me confidence in handling important documentation.
Learning experience
I learned the importance of empathy and active listening when working with vulnerable populations. I also gained insight into how systemic barriers affect families and how advocacy can make a difference. Time management and clear communication were essential skills I developed while balancing multiple cases and collaborating with professionals.
