Allison Niemiec

Responsibilities

In this internship I have 3 rotations, they are Event operations, Meetings and Events and Restaurants. There is one big event called Annual Meeting along with a bunch of other smaller events. I am sitting on meetings related to Annual Meeting and helping with small projects such as the volunteer list schedule and the intern rally. Then I also got to see all of the on-campus events and help with the execution. Northwestern Mutual has free lunch, when in restaurants I help prepare the lunch and get to see what goes into feeding over 2,000 people within 2 1/2 hours.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment I would say is any help I have given to Annual Meeting because it is a $1,000,000+ event. It is really cool to see an event that large in the planning process and get executed then be able to play a part in both of those areas.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson is to put myself out there to volunteer for anything that needs help because that will make someone recognize more for doing the work that no one else wanted to do.

What advice would you give?

I would say, don't be afraid to ask questions and meet up with people in the company that aren't in your area and that you wouldn't normally talk to because then you will get insight about other parts of the company you wouldn't get if you didn't talk to them. Even if you feel they wouldn't talk to you it never hurts to reach out.
