Responsibilities

- I support the well-being team in the implementation of well-being plans for residents and team members. I also shadowed and supported regular fitness classes for residents or team members to develop skills and comfort in teaching classes and creating better leadership skills. - I implemented well-being events for team members or residents, such as educational presentations, lunch and learns, experiential events, and promoting healthy eating in the offices! Lastly, I developed promotional plans and materials to encourage attendance at these planned events.

Accomplishments

This is a tough question, I feel like I accomplished so much here with WesleyLife. I accomplished many long projects, made connections, grew my networking, and gained many valuable life skills. My greatest accomplishment is becoming a professional adult, and learning how to maintain relationships throughout the workplace. All of this to say, this internship helped me land an amazing job!

Learning experience

I learned three lessons during my time at this internship! The first lesson was learning how to properly shake hands like an adult, and go out of my way to introduce myself to my coworkers; this will get you far! Secondly, I learned how to write professional emails, this is SO important! Understanding how to properly write an email without sounding incompetent is huge when it comes to reaching out to donors, volunteers, etc. Lastly, I learned that you should always go out of your way to ask about your coworker's day or shoot them a smile. You never know what someone is going through.

What advice would you give?

A few pieces of advice I have for future HDFS majors are making connections at career fairs, getting to know the people in your classes and your major, and lastly, enjoying being a college student with few worries. Making connections at career fairs may feel silly or unnecessary, but it makes a huge difference when you're looking for an internship or job. Getting to know your peers will go a long way when it comes to projects, homework assignments, and overall just being connected to the people you will see 2+ times a week. Finally, enjoying where you are in the present will help you be successful in all areas!
