Responsibilities

During this internship I was responsible for looking up items in the store that were low in stock and finding them at other store locations to bring over. I accomplished this by using the company's computer and communicating with other employees. I was also responsible for going to the main warehouse and pulling popular items that need restocked weekly, transferring them into each store's inventory using the same computer system, and getting them ready to be loaded onto the store vans. I was also responsible for straightening and visualizing merchandise in the store front and providing exceptional customer service when needed.

Accomplishments

The greatest accomplishment during my internship experience was being able to pull merchandise from the warehouse and transferring them to multiple store locations. This not only taught me decision making when deciding how much is needed at each store, but taught me to be organized and to plan ahead. It was rewarding to be able to do this task on my own and has made me more confident and understanding of the merchandising industry.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I have learned from this experience is that even though you may be tired or not excited one day at work, you cannot let that show because it will turn your supervisor/employees into that as well. Energy is contagious and to go in with a positive, confident, and excited attitude will create a lasting memory to them.

What advice would you give?

My advice to future students in my major is that everyone's path is different and even if yours does not seem to be a smooth sailing or on the same path as your best friend's it is okay. My path was the opposite of smooth but everything worked out eventually at the end and this internship is spot on to what I have always wanted to do and I did not even know existed when everyone else seemed to be on the right path but me. My advice is to find a company that you relate to and your values align because it not only will make the work more enjoyable but it will bring you the right people into your life too.
