Responsibilities

During my internship, I was in charge of helping 5 members inside their house with their daily activities. Activities included bathing, cooking, cleaning, transportation, and medication administration. Along with that, I assisted them with individual goals that were decided by their guardians, caseworkers, and Mainstream staff.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was getting to build amazing relationships with the staff and members throughout Mainstream. During my time, I got to meet members outside of the house where I worked at and I got to meet so many staff members who love doing what they do. I made so many friendships and I will cherish them for a long time.

Learning experience

One of the greatest lessons that I learned is that with the help and encouragement of others, anyone can do pretty much anything if they put their mind and heart to it. Not only the staff here, but also the members need encouragement, just like anyone else. Giving a shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, or simply someone to sit next to can make all the difference in how someone interacts with you.

What advice would you give?

It goes by fast, so enjoy every moment. Even though there will be classes that seem tedious or not worth going to all the time, it is a great idea to still go because you learn such cool and exciting things. Along with it going by fast, it may seem slow at times, but each semester flies by.
