Responsibilities

-Gain a basic understanding of the American Lung Association -Become knowledgeable of mission, development, and communications efforts. -Gain technical training by utilizing Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Suite. -Participate in staff meetings and learning opportunities. -Assist in the development of media materials such as press releases, facts sheets and briefing documents, as well as working to develop compelling media pitches and story angles. -Assist in compiling communications plans. -Assist with brainstorming and providing creative ideas to execute communications efforts for health promotion initiatives. -Assist with general administrative support for tobacco cessation and tobacco prevention education to gain exposure to specific terminology. -Assist in the office outreach efforts to encourage organizations to implement policy change. -Assist in compiling program data. -Assist with brainstorming and providing creative ideas to execute programs.

Accomplishments

Helping with the Fight For Air Climb! This is a big event that the American Lung Association puts together. This was my chance to step-up and take on new roles that were not expected of me. Prepping for an event like this was a lot of hard work and hours put in, but I know excepting more roles only proved myself to my team at ALA. All of the hours put in, the hard work, and sweat (literally) was so worth it to show what I was capable of.

Learning experience

This is a new experience, you are not going to know how to do everything. Asking questions and double checking is not a bad thing and you will continue to learn and grow everyday. Alway ask to exceed what they have given you, your title may be "intern" however, show them what you have learned and prove what you can do!

What advice would you give?

Speak up, new outlooks are always wanted and needed! You get as much as you put in.
