Responsibilities
Trained clients both individually and in group settings. Helped create new group exercise prescriptions as well as helped to create various spreadsheets for new clients. Became familiar with the software they use to track everything going on. Hands-on stretching and chiropractics.
Accomplishments
I would say my greatest accomplishment is the wide variability of training experience I obtained. I worked with primarily older individuals who had a variety of health concerns and limitations, and it was important to make the necessary accommodations for them. However, there are still some younger individuals and some athletes who come in as well, so I’ve learned to train in many different ways. The mix of individual training and group training has led to higher confidence no matter the setting.
Learning experience
Always keep moving and keep learning. Staying active both physically and mentally will keep your body from feeling those eventual aging effects. One of the doctors here always says, “You don’t stop moving because you get older, you get older because you stop moving,” and that’s very evident here with how well some of the older and consistent individuals move. Learn from the people around you, as everyone comes from different places with varying knowledge. I have learned something new each day I’ve been in the clinic, whether it be exercise-related or just something about life that’s worth knowing.
What advice would you give?
Don’t worry so much. Something I’ve realized is that most people want you to succeed and will always help in any way. I was super nervous before my first day here, but after meeting everybody and getting acquainted, I was so relieved and excited to be in such a supportive environment. Another piece of advice I have is to value your time. Do your work that you’re supposed to but don’t let anyone control you in ways they shouldn’t. Focus on you first before being ready to tend to others.
