Responsibilities

My overall job was to help set up, work, and reset events held at the Alumni Center. There are a lot of exciting moving parts to this job. Room set up includes arranging seating, tables and other equipment, as well as operating materials in the events. Resetting events help organize and one event to the next event- cleaning and rearranging set up accomplish that. The best part of this job is working the events! Assisting clients, supervising the event, and seeing all the work put into the event happen.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was working the Cyclone Central Tailgates at the Alumni Center. I was able to be a part of the staff who helped direct Cyclone fans and the Iowa State University Cyclone Football ‘Varsity’ Marching Band places on game day!

Learning experience

The most valuable lesson I have learned is being flexible. Plans change, schedules change- it happens with everything. The staff at the center are great to work with- they are easy-going and very helpful with questions I have. They are exceptional about being flexible with events if plans change. A workplace environment like that made the experience even better.

What advice would you give?

My advice I would give to future students who are majoring in events- is to apply all job experiences you have into your internship. Every experience you have had can be used to be successful in your next job even if you do not think so!
