Responsibilities
During my alterations internship at David's Bridal I had many different responsibilities. My main responsibility was to sew and actually alter the dresses. I learned many alteration techniques and strategies. I would often shorten a hem, add a bustle, shorten straps, take in the waist, and add bra cups to the dresses. Additionally, I also steamed, ironed, did alteration fittings, and did pick ups. During the fittings we would have to pin the dress to fit the customer and that is what we would later alter.
Accomplishments
My greatest accomplishment was being able to work on a dress from the beginning to end without being confused or having to ask questions about everything because I actually knew and understood what I was doing.
Learning experience
The greatest lesson is that you never know what someone else is going through. And if they are stressed out and get angry and try to take it out on you then you should be patient and try to work with them instead of treating them the same way back.
What advice would you give?
I advise future students in my major to always ask questions. Asking a lot of questions will help you learn more faster. Additionally, this is a good way to make yourself seem more interested, engaged, and eager to learn. This will make other people realize that you actually care and will make them think better of you.
