I many different responsibilities during my time at the Rec like lead group fitness classes, teach clients in personal training, mentor new personal trainers, and help assist the program. I helped the program by making sure equipment in the fitness rooms where safe, organized, and clean. I also tracking participants helped to market rec services at resource fairs.
The best thing I accomplished during my internship was making a positive change in other peoples lives. Either through personal training/group fitness by helping people get healthier and feel better while meeting their goals, or through helping peers be better at training/instructing. Nothing is better than seeing another person feel great by accomplishing their goals and you helped with their journey to do so.
That no matter what you know or what knowledge you have, you can always learn and grow into a better trainer or person.
What advice would you give?
Get involved early on and build up as much experience as you can during your time as ISU, and Rec Services is a great place to do so.
