Responsibilities

I was responsible for providing assistance to different aspects of the public health department. I helped organize program outreach supplies, clerical support for a disease outbreak case, and with a writing for a grant application.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship was being able to give successful feedback and critique on a grant application before submission to help ensure maximum possible points.

Learning experience

Some of the greatest lessons I learned were: all work done by the public health workers is crucial and makes an impact on an individual’s life everyday, there is more to public health than any one person realizes, and that big changes take a lot of little steps and hard work.

What advice would you give?

If I could give advice to future students, I would tell them to focus on one step at a time. Public health is such a broad field with a lot of places that need passionate workers. The best way to have an impact and succeed where you want to, is to start one step at a time and take in where you are.
