Responsibilities

Two teams I have been able to be a part of are the Early Childhood Quality Improvement Project (ECQuIP) team and the CDA Navigator team. Though each team has a different focus, they both work to support early childhood educators. During my time with the Iowa AEYC, I have been able to help out with various projects, including data tracking and reporting, communications with center directors, and shadowing not only the professionals within the Iowa AEYC but also center directors. I was also able to help assist with the spring institute.

Accomplishments

One accomplishment is to have been able to step into a very well-known and respected agency within the early childhood field and to have been able to hold my own and show them I am knowledgeable in the field. This is thanks to the education I have received at Iowa State.

Learning experience

One lesson I have learned is not to worry about all the little things. There will be things that are not within your control, but distinguishing what is and what is not and where to focus your time and skills will help your overall perspective of things within your role.

What advice would you give?

The advice I would give future HDFS students is to be willing to step out of their comfort zone and explore all options within this major.
