Responsibilities

At the Slow Era I fulfill tasks and responsibilities such as E-commerce and website management, social media marketing, public relations, visual merchandising, recording inventory and sales, identifying selling trends and product photography. One main aspect of my work at the Slow Era is researching vintage clothing trends and being able to properly identify vintage clothing.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during my internship so far has been getting more familiar with identifying vintage clothing and fashion trends. In my time at this internship, I have become much more confident in my ability to identify a decade to an item of clothing just by looking at it and being able to identify trends from certain eras as well as materials used, silhouettes, colors etc.

Learning experience

I think that my biggest lessons during my internship experience have so far included seeing everything it takes to run a successful small business. It’s been interesting to see everything that goes into it and how many hats the owner of a small business has to wear.

What advice would you give?

The main piece of advice I have for future students going into Fashion Communications is to get involved in as much as you can and develop professional connections with your professors and faculty advisors. Throughout my time at Iowa State, I've been involved in numerous clubs and organizations and have worked on a magnitude of personal creative projects outside of my classes. Getting involved as much as you can helps with resume and portfolio development as well as developing personal connections that could help you in your future career endeavors.
