Responsibilities

I assisted with creating and designing posters and flyers for IBDC’s events. I also coordinate our organization’s social media platforms to promote Black pregnant women’s health and education. We host community baby showers to distribute baby supplies and allow networking with doulas. Lastly,my internship was completely online which provides more flexibility and the flyers mentioned are as displayed.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was successfully creating event flyers in promoting Black pregnant women health.

Learning experience

I learned that Black pregnant women’s health is one of the most overlooked in public health issues and it is critical to advocate for it in order to reduce birth mortality rate and disparities among Black population in Iowa.

What advice would you give?

There are many public health issues that still needs to be addressed and organizations that can support you so do not be afraid to pursue your passion in public health.
