Marco Melone
Responsibilities
I was given very loose responsibilities for what I was to do during my internship because I did a little bit of everything mostly involving the hotel's front office. I did the check-in/check-out process, catered to guests' needs, and solved guest issues. I also helped with incident reports as well as attended some revenue meetings.
Accomplishments
I would say my greatest accomplishment during my experience was realizing what I liked and did not like about the industry. This experience for me was to discover what I like and do not like about the hotel industry and now I think I have a better understanding of that.
Learning experience
The greatest lesson I learned from my internship was that the people you work with and how places are managed make or break how much you enjoy your job. The hotel I worked at lacked a lot of necessary things I feel a hotel should have, but the people who worked there made it easier to get through the hard days.
What advice would you give?
Some advice I can give future students is if you do not have a passion or the patience for being in the service industry then do not do it. Find something you really love and try all aspects of the industry to see what fits you best, because it is not easy to serve people all day.
