As an Administrative Assistant at Central Iowa Psychological Services, I answered phone calls and assisted with client needs. I also took time to register clients for intakes, set up appointments, and collect co-payments. Overall, I provided clerical support to clinicians and staff.
My greatest accomplishment was establishing relationships with the clients and staff. I was able to form bonds and make more connections than I ever thought was possible in such a short amount of time.
Some of the greatest lessons I learned were that it is important to practice stress management skills in this field of work. I learned that I need to practice self-care while providing quality service to others.
What advice would you give?
My advice would be to take a chance on experiences and opportunities presented to you even if it is not what you had envisioned. This major is awesome in the way that it includes so many different areas and specialties. You may find a whole new passion through your experiences and education!
