Responsibilities

My responsibilities included assisting patients in their range of motion and strengthening exercises, retrieving hot packs, setting up and gathering equipment for sessions, and ultrasound areas of treatment. I assisted in lots of splint-making as well.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment during this internship was successfully leading a patient through all of their strengthening exercises from start to finish.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned was to be a listening ear for the patients. A lot of the patients are elderly; therefore, coming to their appointments is some of their only socialization. They use their time to discuss issues they are having in their personal light. It is not only your job to treat patients' injuries but also to be a listener to them.

What advice would you give?

My advice to future students would be to go into everything with an open mind. Being close-minded can result in the failure of something you think you like and want to do. Having an open-mind allows you to try things you thought you did not have an interest in.
