Responsibilities

As a marketing intern, my responsibilities consisted of working with a POS system, printing and shipping ticket orders, corresponding with potential customers, setting up/tearing down buffet/hospitality areas, filling out requisition forms for future events, taking photos of park performances for social media, collaborating with other departments within the company, and occasionally working in retail or game booth settings.

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment as an intern was networking with coworkers and customers who booked with the park. As interns, we got to respond to emails and set up accounts with companies looking to book with the park. It was a cool experience to be able to connect with the companies’ primary contact and work on meeting their needs. My supervisor offered to let me be the primary contact for a recurring customer that often has a lot of different requests and questions that need to be addressed. I worked with her and corresponded with other departments on her behalf to ensure that her experience with Adventureland was a good one. This helped build my relationship with various department heads and companies alike.

Learning experience

The greatest lesson I learned from working at Adventureland is to always take the opportunities you don’t necessarily want to. There were days I didn’t want to complete certain tasks or times I was hesitant to take extra hours. Each time I didn’t want to and did anyway, I always had a good experience! I learned new skills, met new people, and visited places I wouldn’t have otherwise gotten to. Looking for the positives always helped improve my mindset and work ethic simultaneously, and I never regretted my decision in the end.

What advice would you give?

Try to make friends where you can! My internship experience was difficult, frustrating, and stressful on a daily basis, but seeing my coworkers always made it worth it. We bonded over the bad days and celebrated the good days as a team. Considering my coworkers friends too also helped with communication and completing group projects. I wasn’t afraid to ask for help or give/take constructive criticism when needed, because I knew I could trust them and vice versa. This was the most positive aspect of my internship experience and I’m glad I made an effort to be social as we worked together.
