Ryan Kodama

Responsibilities

Assist Denim and Footwear Designers with everyday tasks. This includes illustrator CAD sketches, helping keep linesheet up to date, research trends, color research, updating online PLM system for style updates, assist in fittings with taking notes, etc. I will also complete a project for their portfolio, designing and getting help from the design team while completing. I will help organize the warehouse, sorting through original and vintage clothing.

Accomplishments

I was able to create some logos and shoe insert mockups that will be used in the future season of RE/DONE. The head creative director liked the work I did for this project so it meant a lot to me. Besides that, I am proud of the work I am doing for my final project. My vision of what I want for my designs are exciting and it is really cool to see it all come together.

Learning experience

I think the greatest lesson that I’ve learned is to never be afraid to ask questions or for help. I have been lucky where I have bosses that are more than willing to assist me with anything that I need help with. Because of that I think that I’ve been able to learn way more than if I were at something like a remote position. Communication has always been very important to me, and I am someone that values clarification to complete tasks to the best of my ability.

What advice would you give?

My advice is to never settle and always put your heart into everything you do. If you plan to end up in a creative field, you should know that you will get what you put into your work. Never settling also applies to getting a job, if you know the type of job that you want then you should always strive to get there.
