Responsibilities
This summer, I got the opportunity to work with Myers Parks Events and Youth Activities Department. This entailed helping plan and supervise events like swim team events, baby & bridal showers, birthday parties, and cocktail & dinner parties. I also got the chance to rotate through different departments to better understand how a club is run from different perspectives and how each department works together to produce an exceptional membership.
Accomplishments
For one of our weddings this summer, our F&B manager was gone (who usually takes the lead on all weddings). I got to work with other managers to see how we could improve our wedding service and ensure everything ran smoothly. The wedding went perfectly, with few complications.
Learning experience
In the Events/Country Club industry, you have to be willing to adapt quickly with a smile on your face. Problems will continue to rise, no matter how much pre-planning you've done; to keep the guest/member happy, you have to solve all problems as discreetly as possible to ensure they stay happy.
What advice would you give?
Don't let your stress build. If you are starting to get overly stressed about a particular situation and have a chance to step back or have someone else help solve the problem, DO IT! The events and hospitality industry can be very stressful, and not finding ways to help cope with that stress be extremely challenging personally and professionally!
