Responsibilities

● Assisting in coordinating Infection Prevention Policies throughout the hospital ● Providing educational materials involving infection prevention methods for new employee orientations ● Assisting with employee flu vaccination paperwork and data ● Monitoring prevalence of SSIs (surgical site infections) and HAIs (hospital acquired infections)within the hospital ● Aiding the clinics and staff in preparation for joint commission inspections ● Attend various meetings involving APIC, Infection Control, and Patient Safety ● Monitor hospital floors to ensure proper PPE and sanitation methods are being utilized

Accomplishments

My greatest accomplishment was creating an informative powerpoint for new employee orientation. The powerpoint included information on the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene to avoid giving patients HAIs and SSIs that could've been easily avoided. Not every employee works directly with patients or has a healthcare background so it is important to educate everyone on the risks involved when the proper precautionary measures are not taken.

What advice would you give?

My advice for future students working as an intern would be to ask as many questions as you can and to talk to a variety of people in your field that work around you to get a better feel of what all is out there. You will learn more from your experience than you ever did in a classroom.
