Overall Experience

My study abroad experience in Ireland was incredible—both personally enriching and academically engaging. Exploring Dublin, Howth, and the Cliffs of Moher gave me a beautiful glimpse of Irish culture and scenery, but the most impactful part was connecting kinesiology concepts to real-world settings. We spoke directly with athletic trainers and observed them in action, which brought our classroom learning to life.

Learning experience

The most valuable experience was speaking with Irish athletic trainers and watching them work with athletes. Seeing their methods and communication styles gave me a clearer understanding of applied kinesiology in a real-world setting. I learned how adaptable and collaborative healthcare professionals need to be, and how cultural context can influence treatment approaches.

Memorable experience

Standing at the edge of the Cliffs of Moher was unforgettable. The natural beauty was breathtaking, and it was a reflective moment that reminded me of why I chose a field focused on health and wellness. It was a peaceful break from the busy pace of learning and exploring, and a reminder to always take in the big picture.

What did you not expect?

I was surprised by how accessible and down-to-earth the professionals we met were. They were eager to teach, share, and connect with us. That openness reminded me that no matter how advanced or specialized your role is, human connection and approachability are key. I want to bring that same openness to my future practice.

What advice would you give?

Don’t hesitate—go for it. It’s a chance to grow personally and professionally in ways you can’t fully prepare for. Be open to every learning moment, step out of your comfort zone, and ask questions. What you gain from the experience will stay with you long after the trip ends.

How has this experience impacted your life?

This experience strengthened my passion for kinesiology and helped me see its global relevance. Personally, it gave me more independence and cultural awareness. Educationally, it reinforced the importance of hands-on learning. Long-term, I plan to pursue a career in occupational therapy, and this trip inspired me to stay open to international opportunities and diverse approaches to rehabilitation and patient care.

How did you learn about this experience?

I first heard about this opportunity through my kinesiology department. It was introduced during a class, and I followed up by attending an info session hosted by the study abroad office.
