Jennifer Margrett named Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education

Jennifer Margrett, a professor in human development and family studies at Iowa State University and director of the ISU interdepartmental gerontology program, has been appointed associate dean for research and graduate education in the College of Health and Human Sciences. The appointment became effective March 8 and will continue through June 30, 2024.

“Dr. Margrett brings a strong history of leadership as director of graduate studies and rich experience on multidisciplinary research teams. In addition, her leadership in online learning and with the GPIDEA board inform her support for our online learning efforts,” said Laura Jolly, dean and Dean’s Chair of the College of Health and Human Sciences. “Her varied educational experiences and commitment to research and graduate education make her a strong advocate for excellence. I am confident that Dr. Margrett will provide exemplary leadership for CHS research and graduate education.”

Margrett has served as interim associate dean for research and graduate education since August 2019.

Her research emphases include everyday functioning, competency, and cognition of humans throughout adulthood, development and optimal aging, and gerontology education and training. Her collaborative work focuses on investigative research in health and wellness and the benefits of engineered technologies for aging adults.

To support her research, Margrett has received research grants from organizations such as the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Administration for Community Living, Administration on Aging, and National Institute on Aging.

She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and is past president of APA’s Adult Development and Aging division. She is also a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America.
