Responsibilities

During summer 2023 as an event intern, my responsibilities were but were not limited to; attending business meetings for potential events and meetings for event recaps, preparing materials and paperwork needed for the event, assisting the event director on event day set up, managing other vendors/ employees, act as a customer service representative during events and assist in directing the teardown company(ies)

Accomplishments

During my internship, my greatest accomplishment was building connections with people in the industry. Since the coliseum is a big event venue and works with other event companies such as Live Nation and Insomniac, it opened many doors to meet many people in the industry. From there, I got to make relationships with others that could help my career in LA and help with job searches next summer or after college.

Learning experience

A good lesson I learned from my experience is ensuring event detail is advanced. Being extra prepared is just the minimum when planning because sometimes guests' lives are on the line. Another good lesson I learned in having a job in LA is that sometimes it's not what you know it's who you know, so good impressions are extremely important.

What advice would you give?

My advice for future students going into event management is to join different clubs and get a diverse amount of experience. It's hard to learn what you want to do from the books, especially because some of the curriculum only touches on some areas of the event industry. By also joining clubs or sororities, you can use those connections as a source to look for jobs and internships.
